The NCLEX License is awarded after successfully passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN) and meeting the licensing requirements established by the nursing regulatory authority where you plan to practice. The examination evaluates a candidate’s ability to provide safe, effective, and competent nursing care.
The NCLEX License is required for nursing graduates who wish to become licensed Registered Nurses (RNs) or Practical/Vocational Nurses (PNs) in countries and jurisdictions that recognize the NCLEX examination. Internationally educated nurses must also meet the eligibility requirements of the nursing regulatory body before applying for the exam.
To apply for the NCLEX License, candidates must meet the eligibility requirements established by the relevant Nursing Regulatory Body (NRB). These typically include completing an approved nursing education program, submitting an application for licensure, verifying identity, and providing any additional documentation required by the licensing authority.
Applicants generally need a valid passport or government-issued identification, nursing degree or diploma, official academic transcripts, nursing registration or license (if applicable), recent passport-size photographs, and any additional documents requested by the Nursing Regulatory Body. Some jurisdictions may also require credential evaluation and proof of English language proficiency.
The NCLEX License registration process begins with applying to the appropriate Nursing Regulatory Body. Once eligibility is confirmed, candidates register with Pearson VUE, receive an Authorization to Test (ATT), schedule the examination, and complete all licensing requirements after passing the NCLEX.
The NCLEX uses Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) to assess a candidate’s clinical judgment, patient care knowledge, pharmacology, health promotion, psychosocial integrity, and professional nursing practice. The exam adapts to each candidate’s performance throughout the test.
